Ask MrPetrov
Do you have trouble with your openings and want to know why? Do you get stuck for ideas having played the first few moves from memory? How do you decide on a strategy when you have "left the book"? Do you need tips on how to study? Help is at hand!
MrPetrov (Finger MrPetrov) will be holding three Q and A sessions, each about an hour long, where members of LeChess Club can ask questions such as these and MrPetrov shall endeavor to answer them.
D. Kelley is an active teacher/player on the Internet Chess Club. After learning the game at the age of ten, Kelley quickly became a terror both in scholastic events and over-the-board events. With a vicious style, Kelley quickly became among the top scholastic players of Washington State and spent years on the top 100 list for his age group in the United States. Currently, Kelley plays casual games online and teaches a number of successful students. While he focuses on chess only as a hobby, for the time being, he is dedicated to his students and his studies. MrPetrov has been teaching on the ICC for six years
The sessions will take place at the following times;
If a LeChessie would like to submit a question in one of the sessions then simply message the question to MrPetrov so that he can prepare a comprehensive answer. If your question involves a position on a chess board then use the loadfen command and send it along with the question to be asked.
During the session would all observers please allow MrPetrov to answer the questions without interruption. If questions arise from his answers then please wait until he has finished typing before asking.
Lecture Series: Analysing a Position
A series of three lectures will be given on the theme of "Analysing a Position". This will be of particular use to lower rated players who need further understanding in the considerations that should be made during strategic and tactical planning to make the best of what a position has to offer.
Lectures will be given at the following dates and times:
| Wed 13 Sep 17:00 | Sir-Knightly | Basic Principles (importance of proper development/weak pawns/squares (Target Audience u1400) |
|
| Wed 20 Sep 17:00 | PTrajkovic (IM) | Lecture associated with the beginning of the middle game/what factors do we consider when deciding on the strategy | |
| Wed 27 Sep 17:00 | MrPetrov | Evaluating the Transition between the Midgame and the Endgame |
EasilyAmused's Lecture Series: Co-ordination of Pieces
EasilyAmused will be running a four week lecture series on "piece co-ordination". The lectures will be on Wednesdays and start at 17:00 with the first lecture being on 4th October
EasilyAmused was given his first chess set when he was three years old and was taught how to move the pieces by his mother. Apart from playing locally, it wasn’t until he reached the 9th grade that he started playing serous chess, having found the USCF, ICC and local tournaments. Having got a few tournament wins under his belt he taught in local schools which, in turn, was reflected in their successes in state championships. His best tourney results were a second and a third in the Kentucky State Championships (Grandmasters Goldin and Kaidanov were absent) and a tie for first in King Island. EasilyAmused learns about chess by writing about it and although his notes have enabled him to produce 2 books they have not been published...yet?
It is my intention to present Le Chess Club with a short series on piece coordination. I will be presenting ideas that I have come up with that have guided me from 1600 USCF to 2000ish USCF. These ideas are eccentric, fun, and you won’t find them anywhere else. What I offer is a new perspective on chess and hope that many will benefit from it.
The lectures will cover basic ideas of piece coordination about “when to double your rooks on the open file” to more advanced ideas of “How do my Bg1, Rb2, Ke1, and a2 work together?” There will be a total of seven types of piece coordination shared in the lectures each one unique in its own way. These seven types are invented by me so it is a very subjective doctrine I preach.
