Play the Master

At present we have three Masters who have offered to play against members of LeChess Club immediately followed by an analysis session.

These games are a great opportunity for members to play against and learn from a master.  The many observers also get to discuss the game during play (in whisper mode) and after play (in kibitz mode) where you can ask the master questions on any aspect of the game he has just played.

WIM  Lorena Zepeda (Finger LENNA) plays 15 5 at 12:00 (ICC) time on Mondays
NM Michael Aigner (Finger  f5) plays 15 5 at 15:00 (ICC time) on Tuesdays
FM Diego Mussanti (Finger clalauquen) plays 15 5 at 21:00 (ICC time) on Fridays

If you would like to play the master then message LeChessClub "I would like to play <master's name> on <date>" Requests will be dealt with on a first come first serve basis.

FM Diego Mussanti (clalauquen)

Diego Mussanti first started playing chess for fun with his father at the tender age of 5 years old.  At the age of 12 he joined a chess school in his home city where he developed his tactical awareness with a good degree of success. At 18 Diego became a student of civil engineering in La Plata but he was never far from a chess board and it was during this time that he realised that the study of openings and and a development of strategical ideas were just as important as his tactical awareness.  His efforts were rewarded in 1992 when he became the Champion of La Plata and he beat Kasparov in a simul. In 1994 he became state champion and also earnt his FM title.

Diego spent time away from chess to persue his career as a civil engineer and, due to inactivity, was dropped from the FIDE rating lists where his last recorded rating was 2323.

After several years Diego returned to the chess board and became a member of the Internet Chess Club. He is now an official vendor who draws on his experiences as an engineer to teach his students using logic as a method to demonstrate his points.

NM Michael Aigner (f5)

Michael Aigner is a Mechanical Engineer (M.S. Stanford University) and a USCF Life Master aspiring to the international title of FIDE master.  He competes regularly in major tournaments throughout California and Nevada, occassionally travelling further east as well.  Michael started out with a 1023 rating in 1993 but now is rated around 2300 and has faced Grandmasters such as Sadvakasov, Izoria, Yermolinsky, Shabalov, Fedorowicz and others.  Michael qualified for the 2007 US Championship (invitational) and will play in Oklahoma in May (games relayed live on ICC).

Aside from actively playing in tournaments, Michael enjoys teaching chess to talented juniors in Northern California.  Many of his students are nationally ranked for their age.  One student shared first place at the US Junior High Championship while another student has become a master himself.  Michael's teaching philosophy is that you learn the most from your own mistakes, meaning that it is important to play serious games and then to review them carefully.

WIM Lorena Zepeda (LENNA)

Lorena lives in Cuidad Merliot and is currently at university studying Industrial Engineering.  She is currently ranked number one in El Salvadore.

Lorena first started playing the "Beautiful Game" at the tender age of 10 years old with her father, (and probably her sister, SONIA (WFM) on ICC). In 1999 she had a good year, earning her WFM title and then her WIM titles.  In 2001, at the age of  17, she became the National Champion of El Salvador (also 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006) and the Central American Champion, (also 2005 and 2006).  She has competed in two Olympiads, Elista in 1998 where she scored  6.5/13 and Turin in 2006 where reached 13th place with a score of 9/13.

Her next big tournament is the FIDE zone 2.3 in May 2007
